THE NUMBER 300
Enoch and the Number ( 300)
The first time it is found in Scriptures
And Enoch walked with God after he begat Methuselah three hundred years. Enoch walked with God: and he was not; for God took him.
Noah and the Number ( 300)
The number ( 300) is the length in cubits of Noah’s ark.
Gideon and the Number ( 300)
And the Lord said unto Gideon, By the three hundred men that lapped will I save you, and deliver the Midianites into thine hand: Judges 6-7
You can read about Sampson and the Number ( 300) in Judges 15:4.
300 is also connected to David’s Mighty Men and the Number ( 300), read about it in 1 Chronicles 11:11.
Gideon, Samson and David and his mighty men all had great victories. The thing that makes these three conquests unusual is that they can only be understood as you see the hand of God giving a supernatural victory that defies human ability.
Does the number 300 show up in the New Testament?
The answer yes!
Mary of Bethany who anointed the body of Jesus just before His crucifixion is connected to the Number 300.
For it might have been sold for more than three hundred pence, and have been given to the poor. And they murmured against her.
What the number 300 means in this story will be immediately understood by simply reading the response of Jesus.
And Jesus said, Let her alone; why trouble ye her? She hath wrought a good work on me. For ye have the poor with you always, and whomsoever ye will ye may do them good: but me ye have not always. She hath done what she could: she is come a forehand to anoint my body to the burying. Verily I say unto you, Wheresoever this gospel shall be preached throughout the whole world, this also that she hath done shall be spoken of for a memorial of her.
If we were to describe the meaning of the number 300 based on this verse alone, we might translate the meaning as follows:
The number 300 is a proclamation of the death and burial of Yeshua Ha-Mashiach, the Lord Jesus the Christ.
Jesus discloses that this story, including the number 300, is going to be published as a part of the gospel narrative as it is preached throughout the world.
So to be clear, the number is not only associated with death and burial but also the good news that Christ is risen! The number 300 is an awesome numeric reminder of the price that was paid for our redemption.
A summarization of all the verses could read as follows:
We have a certain hope that we will have victory over the final enemy of death, all because of the death, burial and resurrection of Yeshua Ha-Mashiach, Jesus the Christ.
Now let's add what we have learned from the sum number of Kippur, the number 300.
Summary of Picture and Number so far
We learn from the number meaning that the criminal is not standing before an earthly judge. He is on trial for the destiny of his very soul. He is standing before the Lord of Heaven who can send him to Heaven or Hell.
The sinner can offer no defense for himself as he hangs his head awaiting his death sentence. But then suddenly there is silence in the courtroom as the Lord puts His hand over his mouth and refused to pass sentence of the guilty criminal.
Someone has to pay the penalty for the sin of the criminal. The Lord who has never committed any crime, who is perfect and without sin finally takes His hand away from His mouth and announces that He is the only one who can Atone for the sins of the guilty sinner. He announces that He will take the sinner's place and He will take upon himself all the sinner's iniquity.
