Prophetic Harbingers?

Oddly Out of Place or Strategically Positioned?

Now let me ask you a question.

What does this strangely out of place Messianic Prophetic Harbinger announcing that the Messiah will be born of a virgin and called by the title GOD WITH US (Immanuel) have to do with King Ahaz and his concern about the overthrow of Jerusalem?

The answer is that in the natural it has nothing to do with the context of the storyline in which King Ahaz and the fate of Jerusalem are in peril.

So here we have an example of how God announces one of the unique markers by which the world will recognize the future Messiah.

Why does God make this announcement in a manner that to our way of thinking seems clumsy and out of place?

Let me answer the question with a question

If you wanted someone to notice a bicycle wheel would you put in a bicycle shop or in the produce section of the local market next to the bananas? Where would it get noticed? The answer is that it would get noticed where it is out of place.

God wants us to notice the prophetic harbingers regarding His son and so He places them in spots where they cannot be missed because they captivate your interest and curiosity by nature or the fact of where they are placed.

God knows that if you climb a tree and look in a bird's nest expecting to find a fledgling robin and instead you find a brass plated telephone you will never forget it and inquire as to its meaning.

Is this the only reason?

The answer is NO, this is not the only reason why God seemingly places His treasured messages regarding His Son in unusual places so they will be noticed.  There is another reason.

Man’s ways are not God’s ways and our thoughts are not His thoughts.  This is demonstrated in a thousand ways every day.  It is also demonstrated in the way God communicates His truth.

When you read this passage in Isaiah 7:14,

Therefore the Lord himself shall give you a sign; Behold, a virgin shall conceive, and bear a son, and shall call his name Immanuel.

Do you think in your mind that it is all about the obvious storyline?  Probably.

God, on the other hand, has other more glorious purposes in mind with this little slice of what looks like “history” that has nothing to do with the current events that surrounded the drama that circled around Ahaz, the wicked King of Judah.

What else could you discover about the coming Messiah in the 7th chapter of Isaiah?

Is ALL the Messianic Messaging and Messianic Prophecy contained in the Prophetic Words of Isaiah regarding the virgin birth and the announcement that God is going to tabernacle among men?

The answer is NO!

Begin investigating the letters under the Hebrew words and investigating the pictures and numbers in the 7th chapter of Isaiah and you will discover not one prophetic harbinger of the coming messiah but literally hundreds.

And honestly, that is an understatement.

What is the point of all this?

Simple.  You think you're reading God’s word and getting a little glimpse here and a little glimpse there of the coming Messiah.  And don’t get me wrong, that is not only true but it is gloriously wonderful!

But once you begin understanding and investigating the Pictures and the Numbers embedded in the Word, those glimpses turn into a galaxy of brightly shining stars accompanied by angels all singing and praising the Lamb of God who is coming to take away the sins of the world.

The Old Testament contains the very revelation of God and once you begin to understand what God is communicating you will come to know that there is nothing Old about it. His word is not only Current it is Eternal, which means that it will be as fresh a million years from now if such methods of timing exist in Eternity as was in the long ago days of Isaiah the prophet, is today and will be for all eternity.

Everything may pass away except God’s Word, it is the Manna from heaven that never goes stale or ceases to accomplish its purpose.

I appreciate these short lessons. They tie my religious tradion much more closely to the Jewish tradition than previously . I have a better insight to the Hebrew Scriptures and how the ancients saw their God.
